Search
engines are online services that allow users to search the contents of the
Internet to find Websites or specific information of interest. A user inputs a
search term, and the search engine attempts to match this term to categories or
keywords in its catalo of World Wide Web sites. The search engine then
generates a list of sites that match the search criteria, ranked in order of
relevance. Every item of this list shows a hyperlink to specific site and some
description of related web page. Search engines are the primary method Internet
surfers use to locate information on the Web.
Every
search engine maintains a huge database about the web page references. This
database is created by special programs called as spiders, robots or crawlers,
which continuously search the web and updates and arranges database of search
engine. Many search engines are available on web which searches the database of
other search engines and displays the related links. Such search engines are
called as meta search engines.

popular products from Google. More than 70% percent of searches worldwide are
made through Google. Google continuously improves the search engine algorithm
to provide best results to the end-user.

is a search engine by Microsoft. It is the second most popular search engine
today. Initially it was known as MSN search until it was updated in 2009. Bing
tries to support search by offering suggestions and also gives various search
options. Options like wiki suggestions, visual search, and related searches
might be very useful to user.
Ask:
Ask.com
was previously known ask Ask Jeeves. Its search results are based on question
answering web format. It was founded in 1995. Here user can ask question and
search engine integrates a large amount of archive data to answer the question.
If Ask search engine do not have the answer than it takes help from third-party
search engine.
Yahoo:
The Yahoo search engine can be used to find information on the internet based on the keywords you enter into Yahoo's search box. And the best thing about Yahoo is you can filter your results in many ways like you can refine your search results to see content based on when it was published on the web. You can filter search results by category also, this can be helpful if you are searching for content within a specific category.
When a user types in a query the search engine starts by crawling the search engine's database with the help of a software called spiders;
once all the relevant pages which have the information are fetched the search engine ranks the web pages based on relevancy by making use of
its secret search algorithm.
