A power supply unit is the vital component of a system that
supplies power to various components of the system. The power supply unit consists of electronic components and may show some problems due to which the system
may not start. Due to a faulty power supply, the other components of the system
may also get damaged. As a result, troubleshooting the power supply problems is
also an essential task for maintaining the system.
Computer is not starting
If your PC is not starting then it may be a problem related to power supply.
Power Supply Fan does
not Work or Emits a lot of Sound
The power supply fan is not working when the system is switched on or makes
a lot of noise. The problem occurs if the power supply fan is not functional or
if lot of dust has accumulated on the fan motor.
Troubleshoot this problem:
1. Shutdown the system, remove the system case cover and
clean the dirt or dust from the fan and power supply unit with a vacuum cleaner
or with compressed air.
2. Check the power supply fan and replace it if it has any defects.
Troubleshooting PC
problems related to SMPS
You can troubleshoot basic system problems of the PC related
to SMPS. The system may stop functioning after some time due to a power supply
problem.
1. If the computer shuts down after some time, check whether
the SMPS fan is properly working.
2. If the system restarts automatically, make sure that the
wattage capacity of the SMPS matches the computer requirement.
3. If the computer takes more time to boot, check wattage
rating of the SMPS. Refer the link given in the section 4.1 to calculate the
wattage.
4. No display problem may also occur when SMPS display power power connector is not working.
(the display power connector has 4 pin and connects on motherboard)
When computer not powering on then How to check whether computer's power supply is working or not.
Step:1 First off all disconnect all connectors of SMPS from motherboard, hard disk and DVD drive.
Step:2 Now pick 24 pin connector and short green and black wire by a piece of wire as showing in picture
Step:3 Now connect the power cable to the SMPS and on the switch. If SMPS is ok then it's fan will start moving, if not start then power supply has gone.
